Revision Project→ Nasher Membership Cards

a revising of the Nasher Membership Cards to its current design brand.

During my summer internship at the Nasher Museum of Art I was tasked to bring the current membership cards into the new branding of the Nasher. The Nasher wanted something bold, special, and to really wow their members because they are supporting the museum through donations. There are different tiers to the museum membership and each one of them with their different perks: Standard Membership, Supporting Member, Brummer Member, and Director’s Circle. I had to create a design that fits the Nasher branding as well as creating a card that members will be proud to carry and show.

I started with visual research of general membership cards such as libraries, stores, and even my old Blockbuster card, just to see what information is on a typical membership card. I then continued by researching different art museum membership cards such as the Whitney and SFMoMa. There was a design difference between general memberships cards and art museum membership cards as the general cards were more straightforward while the art museum cards were more contemporary in the use of dynamic layout. I started designing keeping in mind the Nasher brand, dynamic layout, and making members be wowed.

I showed the different versions to Joel and he liked that I was trying dynamic layouts and designing every idea that came into my mind. Joel mentioned that many of the members have a more traditional mindset, and he suggested that a bolder and more straightforward approach might be more effective. Keeping this in mind I knew I wanted the card to have bold colors, each color representing a different tier of the membership -I used the CYMK color as well as the Nasher Green. In order for the card to be a straightforward but also dynamic the membership tier is slanted across the card as well as hyphenated to follow the Nasher branding.

Overall this was a memorable project because I was designing for the Nasher members and it was the first project that Joel took a step back. The use of dynamic typography with the bold CYMK colors make this card fit the new Nasher brand guidelines, ensuring that the members are differently wowed. (I even want to be a member to get the card!)
